Project Folklore:

Project Status: Draft Two Complete, with beta readers. plan to start draft three in August 2026

Genre: Historical (and a lot more but I’m not sure what to call it yet)

The Vibes: A combination of ballrooms dances and fights at night in alleyways, themes of grief and morality.

Origin Story: This story came from a little snippet of a story I made up before falling asleep that ended up being the midpoint of the book. In hindsight it’s a strange thing to come up with while trying to fall asleep but it worked in my favor. So in stereotypical writer fashion I grabbed my phone and wrote down the idea in my notes app, along with bits of dialogue that are still in the story to this day, and then of course went to Pinterest to find pictures to match the ideas in my mind.

I have never meandered through a story more than I did this one, I don’t think I knew the ending until I was maybe 10k words away from it. And while that has left me with a bit of work in finding the direction of the story throughout it. It also taught me how much stronger my characters are when I don’t try to tie them down to what I thought they would be. They are messy and lovable and the most real of any characters I’d written.
